Will I be able to do an elective in Japan whilst I'm at medical school?

I'm learning Japanese and my teacher says I'm about GCSE level. I'm a fast learner (I've been having lessons for about 6 months and only for an hour each week and I have been balancing my Japanese with my AS-levels). I'm wondering if it is likely that I will reach a high enough standard of Japanese within the next 5 or so years to be able to partake in an elective? It would be one that lasts a month or so.
