Why did my moustache turn hard?

I know its probably something obvious, but I'm 18 and all of a sudden my moustache turned 'hard', it was always easy shaving it right off, but now its like freaking barbed wire or something, I'm guessing it has something to do with manhood and all that, can someone explain? Thanks xd
